Namsan cable car tickets: which products include the ride
The queue is the problem, not the ride
The cable car has run from the base station on Sopa-ro, uphill from Myeongdong, since 1962, and the ride itself takes about three minutes. Three minutes. I want that number sitting next to everything else on this page, because on a Saturday around sunset the wait to take it can run to hours, and multi-hour queues at peak times are reported often enough that you should plan around the possibility rather than hope. I have watched that line form from the top of my street most weekends for a decade. It builds in the late afternoon and it does not clear.
Two other things the listings do not tell you. The walk from Myeongdong Station up to the base station takes ten to fifteen minutes and is properly steep — there is a public outdoor lift partway that a lot of people walk straight past. And the cable car does not drop you at the tower. There is still a short climb, or an escalator run, at the top. So the ride replaces about the middle third of the journey and nothing else. The most-reviewed one is the one to be careful with
Seoul Highlights is from $26, rated 4.7 from 874 reviews, and it is the most-reviewed product in this catalogue by a distance. Four to eight hours, hotel pickup in central Seoul, an English-speaking guide, air-conditioned transport, Gyeongbokgung Palace admission, the National Folk Museum, Namsangol Hanok Village and the round-trip Namsan cable car. It meets at THE PLAZA Seoul by Myeongdong Station Exit 10. What it does not include is observatory admission, and it says so in the exclusions where most people do not look. If the cable car is the thing you came for
Some people want the ride for its own sake, and that is a perfectly good reason to buy it. Gary, from the United Kingdom, wrote about fantastic views from the top and a great cable car ride, and it is a nice three minutes with the city dropping away underneath you. If that is your plan, the combo ticket is the tidier buy because it bundles the return trip with the deck, and the city tour is cheaper again if you are giving the day to a guided group. The night tour is the one to read twice. From $98, four hours, a local English-speaking guide, a guided walk of the tower, Namsan Park and Myeongdong, photo stops, and a one-way cable car, meeting at Myeongdong Station Exit 3 by the sculpture. If you are going up around sunset, take the 01 bus and save the cable car for the way down, when the queue at the top is a fraction of the queue at the bottom. Coming down the hill on foot is faster than going up and the main paths are lit at night, so a third option is to ride nothing at all in that direction.
The bus almost nobody in the queue knows about
The Namsan Sunhwan circular bus, route 01, splits into 01A and 01B branches, runs small green buses every seven to ten minutes from roughly 06:30 to 23:00, and takes the flat fare quoted at the top of this page, in cash or on a transit card with transfers allowed. It officially connects from Chungmuro Station on lines 3 and 4 and from Dongguk University Station on line 3. It drives up the hill and stops close to the tower base. It is the cheapest way up, it is usually the fastest, and standing at the cable car station on a Saturday evening you would never guess it exists. I use it when I am carrying anything. Do I have to take the cable car to reach N Seoul Tower?

The 01 circular bus costs a small fraction of the cable car fare, runs every seven to ten minutes from Chungmuro and Dongguk University stations, and drops you close to the tower base — it is the cheapest way up and usually the fastest.
