Private tour review: priced per group, and what that changes

Read the price basis before you read the price

Everything else on this site is priced per person. This is not. $422 covers the whole group up to ten people, so the number that matters is what you get when you divide it by however many of you there are. Ten of you and it is roughly $42 a head, which puts it alongside the $26 city tour and the $33 combo ticket while adding a private vehicle and eight hours of somebody’s undivided attention. Two of you and it is a different conversation entirely, and not one I would have.

So this is a product with a threshold rather than a price. Somewhere around six people it starts making sense; below four it does not, unless a private vehicle is worth more to you than the money. That is an unusual thing for a booking page to make you work out for yourself, and it is why I would rather spell it out here than let the $422 do its own talking. Families travelling together, two couples sharing, three generations with a grandparent who should not be doing the cable car queue: those are the shapes that fit.

Two reviews, and what I can honestly say about them

There are two. Both are from the United States and both amount to the same thing: that booking it was one of the best decisions of their trip. GetYourGuide shows the reviewer as an initial rather than a name on this listing, so I am not going to attribute either of them to a person, and I am not going to turn a letter into a first name to make the page read more warmly. Both reviews, and that is all I have.

What two reviews can tell you is very little. It is not a bad sign and it is not a good one, it is thin. A private tour is more exposed to this than a group product, because your entire day depends on one guide and one driver rather than on an operation with a bench. On a listing with hundreds of reviews you can reason about the odds. Here you cannot, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling. The rankings and my reasoning are at the review hub.

What is not included, which matters more here than elsewhere

Attraction tickets are not included. On a listing covering Gyeongbokgung and Namsan Park, that means the palace admission and the observatory admission are both extra, and the official walk-up rate for the observatory is ₩29,000 for an adult. For a group of eight or ten, that is a meaningful sum landing on top of a number you had already decided you could live with. Budget it in before you compare this against anything, because the city tour includes observatory admission and the cable car in its headline figure and this does not.

Two other terms worth knowing. Hotel pickup needs a day’s notice, so this is not a same-morning decision. And overtime is charged at ₩60,000 an hour in cash, which is reasonable enough as a term but is the sort of thing you want to have read in advance rather than discovered in a car park at seven in the evening. Hanbok rental is included, which is a genuine extra and the kind of thing groups end up remembering.

Who it is for

Groups of six to ten, families with a range of walking speeds, and anyone who would rather not stand in a cable car queue at sunset with children. Two of you should look elsewhere: the city tour is a fraction of this per head and includes the deck, and the combo ticket leaves your day entirely your own.
